Move from DigitalOcean App Platform

App Platform builds from your source with buildpacks; velixir does the same and honours your Procfile. Most apps move with no code changes, with managed Postgres and Valkey alongside.

    Deploy your code

    velixir detects the language and builds your source, no Dockerfile needed. It's live on its velixir.run address in about a minute. Listen on 0.0.0.0 on the port in PORT; a Procfile's web line is the start command.

    Bring your variables

    Copy them from the component's environment variables with the Bulk Editor. Encrypted values show as EV[...] and can't be read back, so paste those from where you keep them. Leave out the database and Redis URLs: bind a velixir database and cache and they set DATABASE_URL and REDIS_URL for you. Moving is a good moment to rotate your keys, so paste fresh ones where you can.

    Copy your Postgres data

    Use the connection string from your managed database's page, with your IP added to its trusted sources. Create a Postgres database on velixir, restore into it using the external connection string, then bind it to your app.

    Switch the domain

    Add your domain on the app's Domains tab and point DNS at velixir. Keep the old service running until DNS has moved over.

What works differently

  • •Workers and jobs: run each as its own velixir app from the same source.
  • •Pre-deploy and post-deploy jobs: run migrations as part of your start command.
